Coastal Coordination Committee
Kathryn Zultner, Staff Liasion
The Coastal Coordination Committee was established by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) National Ocean Service and the Coastal States Organization to work in partnership with NERRA, the Environmental Protection Agency’s Office of Wetlands, Oceans and Watersheds; the Sea Grant Association; and other relevant officials and staff in order to strengthen communication and cooperation in coastal management and to further shared Coastal States Organization stewardship objectives and goals between the state and federal coastal management programs.
The Committee is a forum for senior managers of these programs to discuss program development, implementation, evaluation, and improvement; identify opportunities for integration and coordination among programs; and develop policy that guides the collaborative and individual efforts of federal and state coastal management programs and activities. The Committee meets officially twice per year and develops a list of priority activities for the overall Committee and each working group. The Committee has established four working groups: 1) Communications; 2) Science to management; 3) Legislation; and 4) Performance indicators. The Committee is co-chaired by NOAA’s Assistant Administrator for the National Ocean Service, Dr. Rick Spinrad; CSO Chair, Debra Hernandez, and EPA’s Director of the Office of Wetlands, Oceans and Watersheds, Diane Regas.
