The Policy Committees evaluate and draft policy and resolutions under their respective jurisdictions. The Policy Committees approve the policies and resolutions and pass them along to the Executive Committee for its review and approval. The policies and resolutions are then approved by CSO’s Governing Board at the Spring and Fall Annual Membership Meetings.

CSO Adopts Renewable Energy Policy on September 25, 2012

At its 42nd Annual Meeting in Huron, Ohio, CSO adopted a Policy Position of the Coastal States, Territories and Commonwealths on Development and Management of Coastal and Offshore Renewable Energy. Its key principles are:
*Supports investment in appropriate monitoring, assessment, and research to provide the best information for informed decision-making and management, including collaborative, well- coordinated efforts by federal agencies.
*Supports state- and regionally-driven comprehensive planning for ocean, coastal and Great Lakes renewable energy projects.
*Supports the protection of coastal states’ authority and federal revenue sharing for renewable energy activities on the Outer Continental Shelf.

CSO Adopts Coastal Management Policy on October 17, 2011

At its 41st Annual Meeting in Kennebunkport, Maine, CSO Members unanimously adopted a Policy to Advance US Coastal Zone Management calling for Congress and the Administration to:
*Support Coastal Management Programs as Essential Mechanisms to Advance the Nation’s Coastal and Ocean Priorities
*Reauthorize and Reinvigorate the Coastal Zone Management Act
*Maintain Federal Consistency Review under the CZMA

CSO Adopts Climate Change Adaptation Policy on October 17, 2011

At its 41st Annual Meeting in Kennebunkport, Maine, CSO Members unanimously adopted a Policy to Support Coastal States and Territories to Adapt to Climate Change and Advance a Coordinated National Climate Adaptation Strategy which calls for Congress and the Administration to:
*Coordinate Federal Programs, Policies and Funding
*Recognize Critical Role of State Coastal Programs
*Adopt Integrated Approaches to Climate Adaptation
*Improve Scientific Understanding and Increase Access to Data and Technical Support
