Virginia Resilience Planning

Virginia is developing the Commonwealth’s first Coastal Resilience Master Plan aimed at increasing resilience to sea level rise and natural hazards. Virginia has released the Virginia Coastal Resilience Master Planning Framework, which lays out the Commonwealth’s approach to coastal protection and adaptation which will make coastal communities and economies more resilient to increased flooding. This Framework establishes the goals, objectives, guiding principles, and key actions the Commonwealth will pursue to enhance costal resilience, with a focus on protecting key assets, developing cost-effective strategies, conserving and enhancing natural flood controls, and ensuring equity for underserved communities. The final Master Plan will be released in November 2021 and will be updated every five years and reflect the best available science.
