Reuters has released a new 2 part investigation, titled “Water’s Edge: The Crisis of Rising Sea Levels.”

Reuters is publishing a multi-part series on rising sea levels – a phenomenon that is unfolding not as a future threat, but as a troubling reality.

The first story, based on a unique Reuters analysis of tide gauge data, finds that flooding is increasing along much of the U.S. coastline and shows how communities are engaged in an increasingly costly battle to hold back the depredations of an unrelenting adversary. Meanwhile, Washington remains too politically polarized to address the issue in any meaningful way.

Nowhere is the problem more pressing than in the Chesapeake Bay area, where small communities like centuries-old Saxis, unable to secure federal aid, are slowly sinking into the sea, while larger communities, and even a NASA facility, engage in a Sisyphean struggle to keep the water at bay, at ever greater expense to the American taxpayer.
