South Carolina CRS Highlights

Through the Local Comprehensive Beach Management Plan (LCBMP) process, the South Carolina Office of Ocean and Coastal Resource Management (OCRM) works with coastal communities to implement coastal management planning, including the mitigation of coastal erosion and flood hazards. Responding to increased community interest in flood mitigation through the CRS, OCRM has prioritized integrating the CRS into its beachfront planning and coastal management efforts, setting CRS integration as a management priority in its 2016-2020 Coastal Enhancement Strategy. OCRM coordinates the Coastal South Carolina CRS Users Group in partnership with FEMA, South Carolina’s Flood Mitigation Program, ACE Basin and North Inlet-Winyah Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve Coastal Training Programs (CTP) and other federal/state partners. OCRM uses the group to convene communities and deliver tools, trainings, and resources to communities to increase knowledge and understanding of flood risk.
