Virginia CRS Highlights

The Virginia Coastal Zone Management (CZM) Program has prioritized increasing coastal community participation in the CRS through its 2016-2020 Coastal Enhancement Strategy, working closely with Regional Panning Commissions and other state, federal, and local partners on technical assistance for integrated coastal hazard planning. The CZM Program has led pilot efforts in communities to integrate the Comprehensive Coastal Resource Management plan, the community comprehensive plan, the local hazard mitigation plan, and CRS enrollment. The CZM Program also partners with academic partners to support delivery of the Resilience Adaptation Feasibility Tool (RAFT), a collaborative, community-driven process and full-service tool developed to help Virginia’s coastal localities assess risk, engage stakeholders, and improve resilience to flooding and other coastal storm hazards.
